Concert Preview: Black Cat Tavern Grand Opening March 30th (Saskatoon)

Vangelis is resurrected Friday as The Black Cat Tavern — Zelda BellaDonna and the Deadly Nightshades, and Good Enough, opening for Canadian legends Dayglo Abortions!

During a time of year where a large mass of Western civilization goes to…well…Mass, honouring the resurrection of prophetic greatness, it is fitting a long-standing Saskatoon live room, and one of Saskatoon’s most prominent noir punk bands, enjoy mutual resurrection themselves.

A long standing staple of the Broadway arts and entertainment scene, local hot spot Vangelis is being re-envisioned as The Black Cat Tavern, a name reflecting the vision of a venue hosting the weirdest and best music touring Canada, and the new owner’s love of animals.

The official retirement party for Vangelis took place on March 25th with an open mic, then, after a three-day – symbolically speaking – resurrection schedule, will re-open as The Black Cat Tavern.

The Black Cat Tavern opening celebration will feature none other than Canadian punk rock royalty Dayglo Abortions, who are being flown in for one night only! Opening bands include Saskatoon’s’ hard edged punk Good Enough, and local punk-noir sensation Zelda BellaDonna and the Deadly Nightshades.

Zelda BellaDonna, of Saskatoon punk-noir sensation Belladonna and the Temps, is rolling away the boulder to appear as Zelda Belladonna and the Deadly Nightshades, the New York Dolls with their eyes exed out, tantalizingly tough and switchblade smart.

Continuing her message of brash bravado, black tooth grins, and blatant malcontent, Zelda Belladonna (lead vox, guitar) and her new line up – an all-star local band line-up consisting of members from The Classy Chassys, The Speedhammers, Lavagoat, Rehashed, and Savage Henry and the Infamous One Pounders – Matt Joyal (guitar, vox), Graeme Burke (guitar), The Brother (bass), and Rob (Drums) have their sonic scythes held high to lop off heads and castrate minds.

Saskatoon’s hard-edged Good Enough round out the bill perhaps resurrecting rodents or large insects side stage after the show.

Come for punk rock sweat, stay for the pizza!

DayGlo Abortions, Zelda Belladonna and the Deadly Nightshades, and Good Enough perform at the Balck Cat Tavern Friday, March 30th. Doors @ 9 pm. $20.00 cover with advance tickets available at the venue.
