Album: The Mountain Will Fall
In a world where DJ has come to mean anyone with a laptop, DJ Shadow still looms large with his crate digging, beat wringing turntablism. He hasn’t released an album in five years, so it’s about time we got some new material from this innovator; ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ comes out in June. Shadow released a new track a week or so back, featuring none other than Run the Jewels, a.k.a. Killer Mike and El-P. Of course, our love for Run the Jewels at The Feedback Society is legendary, so it’s no surprise that we’re right in the pocket for this track.
And in my humble opinion, ‘Nobody Speak’ doesn’t disappoint. It jumps into a solid groove, beats under horns, electro jazz with a hip hop bent, with Killer Mike and El-P throwing down some snarling rhymes. It’s always great to have more RTJ, and I’m super duper triple hyped to have a new DJ Shadow record on the horizon, especially if this track is any indication. I’ve read that he wants this album to top ‘Endtroducing,’ a genre-reinventing classic, which would be quite a feat. Only time will tell if that mountain will fall or not.
